Tiv Youth Council backs Bishop Kukah’s message on Buhari, denounces Msuaan-led faction

 The Tiv Youth Council Worldwide, TYC, has thrown its weight behind the Christmas message by the Catholic Bishop  of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah on the state of the nation.  TYC said Kukah should be commended for speaking the true to government at a time Nigerians are shying away from such.  The group stated this while faulting a faction of the group that berated Kukah over his message.  The Msuaan-led faction had lambasted the clergyman for accusing the current government of nepotism.  But reacting, TYC described the Msuaan-led faction as an outcast while distancing itself from them. Christmas message: Leave Bishop Kukah, fight bandits - Shehu Sani reacts

  Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has called on youths in the North to fight bandits and leave Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Kukah alone.  In his Christmas message, Kukah had accused President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration of nepotism.  He claimed that Buhari had sacrificed the dreams of Nigerians on the alter of nepotism and Northern hegemony.  But, the Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, accused the clergyman of attempting to destroy the quest for national integration by instigation violence.  CNG said Kukah was using religion to cause disharmony and facilitate the further emasculation of Northern Nigerian Muslims.  However, Sani, in a tweet wrote, “My Dear Northern Youths; leave the Kukah in Sokoto and fight the Bandits in your shokoto.” he wrote.

Kumuyi under attack over alleged sexual abuse

 Pastor William Kumuyi, General Overseer of Deeper Christian Life Ministries has come under attack for staying mute over the alleged threats on the mother of a sexually abused student of Deeper Life High School.  Recall that Deborah Okezie, mother of Don Davis, the Deeper Life High School student sexually abused, raised alarm of threat to her life on Thursday.  She accused the Akwa Ibom State Government officials and some parents of indicted students of intimidation.  This followed her initial outcry that her son was starved and molested by some senior school students in the school.  Although the deeper life ministry has pledged to seek justice for the victim, some Nigerians on Monday took to their Twitter page, calling on the General Overseer, Pastor Kumuyi to take immediate action and personally speak on the issue.  See some comments gathered from Twitter:  @Acedouglas1 “Pastor Kumuyi is too quiet for someone who sternly preaches against immorality a...

Covid-19: Nigerian govt releases new restrictions, orders closure of restaurants

  The federal government has approved new measures to curb the further spread of COVID- 19 in Nigeria. The chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID- 19, Boss Mustapha, speaking at a press briefing of the task force in Abuja ordered the closure of all clubs, bars and restaurants.  The government also restricted number of guests at weddings, conference to 59 as new strain of Coronavirus hits the country.  “Accordingly, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has authorised the PTF to engage with the states and the FCT to assume full ownership of this stage of the response by deploying legal structures and resources, including enforcement to manage the pandemic within their jurisdictions.  The measure will be for the next five weeks as Nigeria hopes to curb the spread of Coronavirus.  “All bars, night clubs, pubs and event centres, and recreational venues should be closed.  “All restaurants to be closed except tho...

Religious freedom: US puts Nigeria on blacklist, issues stern warning

  The United States has added Nigeria to a blacklist on religious freedom.  This is the first time Nigeria is being added to the list which paves way for potential sanctions if the country does not improve its record.  The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo described Nigeria, as a “Country of particular Concern” for religious freedom.  Other nations in the list include China, Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.  Pompeo tweeted on Monday, “Today, the U.S. designates Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, the DPRK, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan as countries of concern under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 for engaging systematic, ongoing, egregious religious freedom violations. ” His tweet added that America is unwavering in its commitment to religious freedom.  “No country or entity should be allowed to persecute people with impunity because of their beliefs.   The second wave of End SARS protest has commenced in Lagos and Ibadan.  Demonstrators have returned to Lekki toll plaza, the scene of the military shooting currently under probe.  Teams of policemen and soldiers are around to forestall a breakdown of law and order.  Security has been heightened at other flash points in Lagos, Nigeria's biggest city.  On Sunday, the police reiterated its ban on gatherings, warning that such might be hijacked by unscrupulous elements.  The End SARS protest initially commenced on October 8 in Lagos. NLC gives fresh conditions over strike

  Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Niger State, has issued conditions that would necessitate calling off the ongoing strike in the state.  NLC Chairman in the state, Yakubu Garba said that the state government must meet the body's three-point demand before the strike is called off.  Garba said the state government must pay October salaries to workers, the 80 Civil Servants sacked must be reinstated and the government must remit cooperative deductions to workers.  He revealed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), yesterday in Minna, the state capital.  “We held a meeting with the government team on Saturday night and agreed that the October salaries of Local Government workers be paid.  “Organised labour also demanded that the state government be made to remit cooperative deductions to workers and 80 civil servants dismissed from service be reinstated,” he added.

COVID-19 vaccine will be free for Americans - Joe Biden

  United States President-elect, Joe Biden has announced that COVID-19 vaccine will be free of charge in the country once approved.  Biden said he and Kamala would ensure the vaccine is distributed efficiently to every American.  On his Twitter page, he wrote, “Once a vaccine is ready and approved, @KamalaHarris and I are going to ensure it's distributed equitably, efficiently, and free of charge to every American. ”  Recently, the United Kingdom approved the vaccine for Coronavirus, making it the first country.  The UK approved Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus jab for general use from next week.  Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency of Department of Health confirmed that the vaccine offers up to 95 percent protection against the pandemic.  Britain requested 40 million doses and immunisations which is set to begin within  days for those in first line of priority.

Man allegedly kills brother over bride price in Imo

  Umueje village in Obinze community in Owerri West Council Area of Imo State has been visited by tragedy following the death of Bright Odi who was allegedly killed by a brother, Victor Iwu over who takes the Lion share of their sister's bride price.  According to a resident of Obinze community, Cosmas, the suspect and the victim were engaged in a serious argument about the sharing formula of the proceeds of their sister's bride price when Victor Iwu (who seemed to be the elder), kicked the victim on his scrotum, leading to his death.  It was gathered that the victim was pronounced dead the following day to the consternation of the villagers.  Further reports revealed that angry youths of the area, on hearing the news of Bright’s death, rushed to the suspect’s house and set it ablaze.  The Imo State Police Public Relation Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu when contacted by newsmen, confirmed the incident, saying that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal ...
